Description
The Manganese Toad Insert #9, designed for 115 lbs/yd rails in the “RE” section, is noted for its ruggedness and reliability. This toad, manufactured to exacting A.R.E.M.A. specifications and drawing No. 623-89, incorporates a manganese steel insert that follows the recommendations of drawing No. 621-89.
It features a 2“ (50.8 mm) thick wall and a 1.375” (34.9 mm) bearing surface.
The casting composition of the manganese steel insert conforms to initial standards (M-2), with casting soundness per drawing 1012-92. The hardening of the toad manganese steel insert is carried out by tapping, reaching a minimum hardness of 321 HB (item M2.7).
Throat, wing and between-leg gaskets are cast from medium-carbon steel, and high-strength grade 5 hardware ensures secure attachment. The holes for the mouth and heel ends of the toad rail inserts feature three holes in each, designed to accommodate 24” long 115 lbs/yd slabs in the ‘RE’ section.
